Grinding gold isn't that important to me even though the game economy basically boils down to "make money and buy what you want" rather than "get what you want by playing" in too many cases I for example like to spend my time doing map completion on my alts and roam the maps gathering the basic materials I need myself instead of just running around the same loop in the Silverwastes (even though I have participated in that too). I want to play the way I feel is fun, not the way that is necessarily the most effective, so I usually take my time to get to the goals I aim for. If you had told me a year earlier that I'd eventually be clearing the hardest content the game has to offer, I wouldn't have believed you, but that's how it goes sometimes. On one night in October 2020, I sat down and decided to give it a shot again, though, and here we are once more :p I caught up with the story around February of the next year and got roped around mid-April into learning raiding through my guildies, which took off better than I expected. I had been following the news and logging in regularly to collect the Living Story chapters during their free distribution periods, but I didn't really log in with the intention to actually play for a long time. In the following months after that, the focus of the game seemed to be turning towards hardcore content – namely raids – that didn't appeal to me at the time, which probably contributed to my following years-long absence.
I was around for most of the early content until Flame and Frost, except for the Lost Shores, then from Bazaar of the Four Winds to Tower of Nightmares, and from Gates of Maguuma to the release of Heart of Thorns. My activity has kinda waxed and waned over the years, but I've always kept GW2 in my heart even while I was taking a break. For the entirety of my time in the game, I've been situated on the Ring of Fire EU server, though considering it stopped mattering outside WvW years ago, the world restructuring is right around the corner anyway, and that I barely play that game mode, that's not really relevant.
